Mechanical Systems

Kelson mechanical highlights:  Kelson was responsible for the entire mechanical scope of this project. This job entailed building new operating rooms, new lab, new oncology wing and new emergency department. This was a fully operational hospital during construction. The challenge was to ensure all mechanical systems remained functional. Another challenge was to make sure the systems were 100 functional and commissioned prior to the owner taking over. While taking down part of the existing hospital to build the new emergency department we had to keep all services live in the old part. The most difficult aspect was getting the heating system working correctly. Kelson connected onto an old heating loop and pump set that did not have the capacity to power up the new wing. This meant that we had to work very closely with an occupied emergency room area of the hospital. We were involved in a complete demo of the front of the building and canopy while leaving access for EMT and emergency vehicles 24/7, and keeping systems live, to heat and cool the area in short order as to not interrupt the day to day operations of the emergency ward. Kelson was successful with the owner requirements.
